Chia Strawberry Jam

Chia seeds are very calcium dense and a heaped tablespoon a day can help with a child’s daily calcium needs. These little seeds are also packed full of fibre, protein and omega 3 fatty acids. They are great added to smoothies or porridge but how about trying this easy Chia Jam recipe.

Chia Seeds: 631mg calcium per 100g

Ingredients

500g ripe strawberries
1.5 tablespoons maple syrup
1 tablespoon lemon juice
¼ teaspoon vanilla powder or essence
3 tablespoons chia seeds

Method

  1. Wash and cut the tops off the strawberries.

  2. Put them in a food processor and add the maple, lemon juice and vanilla.

  3. Blend until smooth. Turn the processor to the lowest setting and gradually add the chia seeds until they are well incorporated (about 10 seconds).

  4. Pour the mixture into a clean glass jam jar and fix the lid tightly.

  5. Cool in the fridge for around 30 minutes until the jam has set.

  6. Keep in the fridge for up to 1 week. 

This jam is great added to cereal, porridge or enjoy on toast.
